Your First Visit · 60 Minutes

The Movement Audit.
Where every plan begins.

Your first visit is not a guess and it is not a sales pitch. It is a structured assessment of how your body actually moves. You walk out with a clear plan: what to do, what to stop, what to build.

Your First Visit

What we test, before we touch you.

Before we test anything, we get you into a grounded environment where your body's signals become accurate again. Then we evaluate how you actually move and where your specific pattern is breaking down. No unnecessary imaging. No one-size-fits-all care.

  • Functional movement screen across spine, hips, and shoulders
  • Pain pattern mapping (where it shows up vs. where it starts)
  • Load tolerance and range-of-motion baseline
  • Daily-life pressure points (work setup, sleep, training)

A clear plan. Not a vague "come back next week."

What Makes This Different

Not the typical first chiropractic visit.

Most first visits at a chiropractic office go like this: paperwork, brief intake, an x-ray they push hard for, an adjustment, then a recommendation that you "come back three times a week for the next 10 weeks."

The Movement Audit is built on a different premise. The point of the first visit isn't to start a treatment program. It's to figure out what's actually going on with your body and give you a clear-headed plan for what to do about it.

What you won't get: a hard sell on a long-term package. A diagnosis built on a single x-ray. A vague answer about how many visits "we'll see how it goes." A plan that requires you to keep coming forever.

What you will get: a structured 60-minute assessment with Dr. Chris, an honest read on what's driving your symptoms, and a written plan with three things you can act on starting that day.

If you want a one-off adjustment, we're not your place.

Movement is the diagnostic. Pain is the symptom.
What 60 Minutes Looks Like

From the door to the door.

A walk-through of your first visit so you know exactly what to expect.

1
First 10 minutes

Conversation, not paperwork

What's hurting. What you've tried. What you can't do anymore that you used to. We get you into a grounded environment first.

2
Next 25 minutes

Movement assessment

How your spine, hips, and shoulders actually move. Where your pattern breaks down. Where load runs out. Standing, sitting, walking, loading.

3
Next 15 minutes

Hands-on work, if appropriate

If an adjustment or soft-tissue work is the right call for the pattern we found, we do it. If it's not, we don't.

4
Last 10 minutes

Your plan: Do / Stop / Build

The three things you walk out with. Plus the answer to whether further visits make sense, and how many. Honest. No upselling.

From First-Visit Patients

"He knew right away what the problem was."

First visit. Knew the problem immediately.

Dr. Chris knew right away what the problem was on my first visit. He worked on me and gave me specific exercises to do at home. In just 3 weeks, the pain has gone away.

Three sessions, then "you don't need to come back."

Chris was pivotal with zeroing in on a hip injury that had been plaguing me. He offered exercises I could do myself. After three sessions he said I didn't need to come back for a few months. No "you need 3x a week for 10 weeks."

Hip fix solved his back. Even snow shoveling is fine.

Dr. Chris identified my back strains as mostly a hip issue, and gave me stretches to do, guiding me on the correct form. My back no longer bothers me even after shoveling snow.

First-Visit Questions

What people ask before they book.

Plan on roughly 60 minutes. The first 10 are conversation, the next 25 are movement assessment, the next 15 are hands-on work if appropriate, and the last 10 are your written plan and any follow-up recommendation.

Only if there is a clinical reason that requires imaging. The default is no. Most cases of recurring back and neck pain are movement-pattern problems, not structural problems x-rays will reveal. We use functional movement assessment instead.

If an adjustment is the right call for what we find, yes. If a different intervention makes more sense (soft-tissue work, mobility prescription, or just rest while the system calms down), we do that instead. The audit comes before the treatment, not after.

No. The Rockfish Protocol has three phases (Relief, Rebuild, Resilience) and each phase has exit criteria. Most patients are done with active care in 4 to 8 visits. Multiple Google reviews specifically mention being told "you don't need to come back for a few months." That's the practice.

Athletic clothing or anything you can move in comfortably. We're going to assess movement, so dress like you're going to do that, not like you're going to a doctor's office.

We accept HSA and FSA. For specific insurance billing, the JaneApp portal has the most current information. If you'd rather talk it through, call 434-361-4480.

That's a reason to do the Movement Audit, not a reason to skip it. The audit is specifically designed to map what's actually going on in your body before any hands-on work begins. Hyper-mobile joints, prior surgeries, multiple overlapping issues: these are all patterns we treat regularly.

What To Expect

The things every patient asks before they book.

HSA & FSA accepted

Out-of-network with all commercial insurance. We provide superbills for HSA/FSA reimbursement, so you can use pre-tax dollars.

Consent comes first

No adjustment without your consent on visit one. The audit comes before the treatment. Always.

Always Dr. Chris

Solo practice. Every visit is with Dr. Chris. Not an associate. Not a tech. Always him.

Worth the drive

Patients drive from Charlottesville, Wintergreen, and across Nelson County for this. Some drive over an hour.

4 to 8 visits, done

1 visit per week for 4 to 8 weeks. Not 3 times a week. Not indefinite. Each phase has exit criteria.
